This is the parish students pick when they want green and quiet without giving up the metro. The blue line cuts straight through — Colégio Militar/Luz, Carnide, and Alto dos Moinhos are all in walking distance of different pockets — so Cidade Universitária is fifteen minutes by train and downtown Baixa is about twenty-five.
Católica's Palma de Cima campus is the anchor. Most of our flats here put you ten minutes on foot from the law and economics buildings, which is why the parish has a long-standing UCP rhythm: the Bar do Lago, the lunchtime queues at the canteen, the late-Thursday spillover into the bars near Sete Rios. Hospital da Luz and the Centro Comercial Colombo sit at the south edge of the parish — Colombo is where you go for the cheap haircut, the late-night cinema, and the Continente Modelo run. For neighbourhood groceries there's a Pingo Doce on Avenida do Uruguai and a Lidl up by Carnide.
The parish has more genuine green than most of Lisbon. Parque Bensaúde is a daily-walk park, not a tourist one, and Quinta da Granja gives you a full running loop. The Benfica stadium is here too — match nights are loud, the rest of the time it's quiet. Cafés worth knowing: Padaria Portuguesa for the basics, Café Aviz on Rua Gomes Freire for the local-bica feel, and Tapada das Mercês up the hill for a Sunday lunch.
Rent sits in the middle of our band — around €420 to €650 per room. The flats near Católica and the metro stations price slightly higher; the ones tucked into the residential blocks behind Bensaúde are the bargains.
Best fit: Católica students who want to walk to class, and anyone who'd rather have a park outside the door than be a five-minute Uber from a nightclub.
