Where the campus is, and why most students live nearby
Católica's Lisboa campus sits on Palma de Cima, in São Domingos de Benfica. Laranjeiras metro (blue line) is a 10-minute walk away through residential streets. The campus itself is closed and self-contained — gardens, cafeterias, a chapel — and students tend to spend long days there. That changes the housing calculus: where most universities reward a quick metro ride, Católica rewards walking distance.
São Domingos de Benfica is the obvious answer. Many of our Católica tenants live in the same parish as their classes, sometimes within 10 minutes on foot. Campolide is the runner-up — bus-connected, slightly cheaper, and on the way into central Lisbon. Lapa works for students who want the city's nicer historic stock and don't mind a 25-minute bus.

Typical price band for Católica students
Católica pulls a more international and higher-budget cohort than most Portuguese universities — strong business and law schools, the CLSBE master's programmes, exchange students from international partners. Realistic budget: €550–€1,000 for a private room with bills included. Studios in São Domingos de Benfica and Campolide run €800–€1,200; serviced one-beds in Lapa push higher.
Why the higher band: Católica students disproportionately want walking-distance flats in São Domingos de Benfica, and the parish has a thinner stock of student rooms than, say, Arroios — so prices reflect demand. Campolide is the value play if you're on a tighter budget but still want to be on this side of the city.
FAQ
Do I need a Portuguese NIF before signing a lease at Place to Stay?
No — we hold rooms while you obtain your NIF after arrival. Many Católica students sign first and get their NIF in their first two weeks. There's a Finanças office in Benfica, walkable from the parish, which most students use.
What's included in the rent?
Furnished room, all bills (water, electricity, gas, fibre internet), weekly cleaning of common areas, bedding, kitchen kit, 24/7 maintenance. The number we quote is the number you pay every month — no separate utilities invoice.
Can my parents pay rent from abroad?
Yes — SEPA transfers from any EU country, international wires from elsewhere. We issue invoices in your name and accept payment from anyone. For families paying from Brazil, the US, or non-EU EU-adjacent countries, we've handled enough wires to know the routing details.
Can I get a residencia / proof-of-address letter for immigration?
Yes. We issue an official declaração de morada within 48 hours of move-in, accepted by AIMA for residency registration and by Católica's international office for enrolment.
How long is the minimum stay?
Aligned to Católica's academic calendar — semester, year, or the full length of the master's programme. We don't do month-to-month for student stock.
Is the deposit refundable?
Yes, fully, minus documented damage. Joint walkthrough at check-out, refund within 30 days. We've been operating since 2019 and our deposit-return policy hasn't changed.
What if my classes get cancelled or I have to leave early?
Give us 30 days' written notice. If we can re-let the room we waive the remainder; if not, we negotiate a fair partial settlement. We've done this enough times to be reasonable about it.
