Where the campus is, and what it means for housing

ISCTE sits on Avenida das Forças Armadas, between Entre Campos and Cidade Universitária metro stations on the yellow line. It's in upper Avenidas Novas — a working part of the city, more residential than tourist, with the university hospital and the law faculty as neighbours. The yellow line is your friend: it runs straight down through Saldanha, Marquês de Pombal, and into the city centre, which means most of our central-west parishes are 10–20 minutes away.

For ISCTE students, the best housing decision is to pick a parish on the yellow line or one stop off it. São Sebastião da Pedreira is the obvious pick (yellow line, walkable to half of central Lisbon). São Domingos de Benfica is slightly further out but cheaper and has direct yellow-line access at Laranjeiras. Areeiro works via a quick red-to-yellow transfer.

Typical price band for ISCTE students

ISCTE is mostly business, economics, sociology, and management — a mixed cohort of Portuguese and international students, with a strong Erasmus contingent. Realistic budget: €450–€700 for a private room with bills included. Master's students and exchange MBAs push higher, into the €700–€900 band, often in studios.

The neighbourhoods that work for ISCTE — São Sebastião da Pedreira, São Domingos de Benfica, Areeiro — sit at the practical middle of the Lisbon market. Not the cheap Erasmus end (that's further east, around Anjos and Arroios), not the expensive expat end (Lapa, Príncipe Real). You get sound buildings, real residents, and a metro ride to campus that's short enough to do twice a day without thinking about it.

FAQ

Do I need a Portuguese NIF before signing a lease at Place to Stay?

No — we hold rooms while you obtain your NIF after arrival. Many ISCTE students sign first and get their NIF in their first two weeks at the Saldanha or Avenidas Novas Finanças office.

What's included in the rent?

Furnished room, all bills (water, electricity, gas, internet), weekly cleaning of common areas, bedding, kitchen equipment, 24/7 maintenance. The rent quote is the all-in monthly figure.

Can my parents pay rent from abroad?

Yes — SEPA transfers from any EU country, international wires from elsewhere. Invoices come in your name regardless of who pays. Most parents set up a standing order on day one and forget about it.

Can I get a residencia / proof-of-address letter for immigration?

Yes. We issue an official declaração de morada within 48 hours of move-in, accepted by AIMA and by ISCTE's international office for your residency or enrolment paperwork.

How long is the minimum stay?

Aligned to ISCTE's academic calendar: a full semester (5 months) or full year (10 months). For executive master's or short MBA modules, we'll work out a contract that fits the programme dates.

Is the deposit refundable?

Yes, fully, minus documented damage. We do the check-out walkthrough together and refund within 30 days. We've been operating since 2019 and our deposit-return record is something we're happy to talk about.

What if my classes get cancelled or I have to leave early?

Give us 30 days' written notice. If we can re-let the room quickly we waive the rest; if not, we work out a fair partial settlement. We've handled enough mid-semester exits to know that life happens.

The yellow line is the spine. Look at rooms in São Sebastião da Pedreira, São Domingos de Benfica, and Areeiro. Or send us your dates and we'll come back with three options. We'll tell you which buildings have working lifts and which don't — that matters in October when your suitcase is full of textbooks.
